Haverhill, MA- Nick Pichette scored twice and Brendan Leahy made 33 saves to lead the Valley Jr. Warriors to a 3-2 victory over the South Shore Kings.
The Kings took an early lead when Brian Miller scored a power play goal from Robbie Davis and Chris Calnan 7:17 into the game.
Devin Tringale tied the game with 5:09 left when Perry Holcombe fed him the puck and he ripped it past Kings goalie Robert Levin. Ryan Fitzgerald also assisted on the play.
Early in the second period, Gus Harms set Brett Mason up at the point and Mason blasted a shot that Pichette tipped in for a power play goal to give the Warriors the lead.
Pichette made it 3-1 when he took a pass from Harms and fired it past Levin with 11:31 remaining in the frame.
South Shore pulled within one with 4:46 on the clock when Kyle LeBrun shot through traffic from the top of the slot and the puck eluded Leahy. Jon Mleczko and Andrew Doane received assists.
The Kings threw everything they had at the net in the third period and outshot Valley 12-7, but Leahy proved equal to the task and never allowed the tying goal. Levin, who finished with 32 saves, skated off in the final minute, but the Kings were unable to find a crack in Leahy.
Both teams will take to the ice on Friday at the Junior Bruins Shootout at the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, MA.
