Norwalk, CT-This past week, the Jersey Hitmen traveled up Route 95 to the brand new SoNo Ice Center to face off against the Connecticut Oilers. The Ice Center, built by Ryan Hughes, was built to house the Oilers in Norwalk, CT. The Oilers are just one of the newest additions to the EJHL, along with the Portland Pirates, as they took over operations for the Capital District Selects over the summer.
The 3:00 PM start was a bit of a rarity for a mid-week EJHL tilt, but the Hitmen did not let that deter them from snatching two points. Behind solid goaltending and a stifling offensive charge, the Jersey Hitmen extended their winning streak to four games, with a 7-1 victory over the upstart Connecticut Oilers. The Hitmen were led by assistant captain Tim Clifton, who came away with a three point night (1G, 2A). Six other Hitmen had multiple point nights, and another six had a point in the contest. In goal, Tanner Creel notched his second win of the season kicking out 20 shots in the win. Another bright spot for the Hitmen was that their power play began to heat up as they scored twice with the extra attacker to go, 2 for 6 on the afternoon.
After the game, the Hitmen were notified that rookie Chad Otterman was honored by the league as EJHL Rookie of the Week, for his hat trick against the Portland Pirates the weekend before. Otterman becomes the third Hitman this season to be honored this season as Andrew Black (EJHL offensive player of the week) and Danny Lopez (EJHL rookie of the week) were named for the week of September 24th.
