10/20/2012, 7:15pm EDT
By Mike Klein

Manchester, NH- Derek Freeman and Mike Weaver each scored a goal and picked up two assists to lead the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs over the Valley Jr. Warriors 4-2 at the Verizon Wireless Arena.

The game started off with goaltenders Marcus Born and Zac Rondeau making spectacular saves to keep the teams off the board in the first period. Valley held an 11-7 advantage in shots on goal, but the game was scoreless after twenty minutes.

Valley broke the scoreless tie 3:48 into the second period when Nick Leonard and Jake Schechter sent Nick Pichette skating down the right wing. Pichette shot from the circle past Rondeau.

The Monarchs tied the game with 4:16 on the clock when Chad Lehigh dished the puck to Joey Yeadon, who skated around the net and fed the puck to Danny Avellanet, who ripped it past Born.

Twenty seconds later, Devin Tringale unleashed a shot from the right circle that bounced off Rondeau’s pads, but Ryan Fitzgerald swooped in and buried the rebound to put the Warriors back in the lead.

Early in the third period, Valley looked to add to the lead during a five-minute power play. The Warriors unloaded on Rondeau, but the goaltender held his ground and prevented further damage.

With 11:26 remaining in the game and the Monarchs on the power play, Mike Weaver shot from the point. Born had it covered, but lost sight of the puck, and Freeman poked it in.

Jeremy Marginsky gave the Monarchs the lead with 7:24 remaining when he flipped in a loose puck. Weaver and Freeman were credited with assists.

Thirteen seconds later, Freeman swept the puck over to Weaver, who sped down the right wing and blasted a shot past Born.

Valley kept the pressure on Rondeau but could not find a crack as time ran out, and the Monarchs emerged with a 4-2 win. Rondeau made an impressive 37 saves, while Born turned away 20.

The teams rematch tomorrow at 4:30 at the Haverhill Valley Forum.
